LEHI, Utah, Jan. 15, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man who shot his estranged wife multiple times on Christmas Eve at a convenience store where she worked has been found dead in a Lehi park.
A news release from American Fork Police Department said the body, which has been identified as that of Michael Darrin Lowe, was located in some thick reeds and partially buried in snow.
Tina Marie Lowe, 39, was transported to Intermountain Medical Center, where she has undergone extensive surgeries and is listed in serious condition.
The news release said officers responded to the area of Lehi’s Willow Park on Sunday morning after the body was located by a citizen.
An investigation conducted by both the American Fork and Lehi Police Departments resulted in the body being identified as that of Lowe. It appeared Lowe had walked into some thick brush in an attempt to conceal his location, according to officials.
Lowe was actively being sought by police after the 6:40 a.m. shooting of his estranged wife, Tina Lowe, inside the Tesoro Fast Gas, 312 N. West State Road, in American Fork. She was found, in extremely critical condition, by a customer.
Near Michael Lowe’s body, investigators also located the handgun they believe was used in the incident in American Fork.
The cause of Lowe’s death was not immediately known. The Utah Office of the Medical Examiner is conducting an investigation into the cause of death.
American Fork Police investigators had not come across any evidence that Lowe had left the area after his vehicle was found unattended in the area of the park on Christmas Eve.
Officers from several different agencies, including the American Fork Police and Lehi Police Departments, have spent a substantial amount of time at the park and in the area of the park, said the news release, attempting to locate Lowe. K-9 teams had also been deployed on two occasions in an attempt to locate him or other evidence. In addition, a Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter was used on the day of the incident. However, the snow, thick patches of brush, and freezing weather severely hampered officers’ efforts to locate Lowe in the park.
