UTAH COUNTY, Utah, Jan. 21, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Search and rescue crews were working Sunday night to bring two people down from a mountain near Pleasant Grove.
Shortly before 11:30 p.m., Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon tweeted, “LifeFlight has flown the stranded man and woman off the mountain near Pleasant Grove. PG Paramedics are evaluating them. Now waiting for SAR members to get off the mountain.”
Cannon earlier told Gephardt Daily the man and woman went up around noon for just a day hike.
They lost their way and got trapped on the mountain. With nightfall and dropping temperatures, the concern was that the pair would suffer hypothermia and frostbite.
Cannon said Utah County Search and Rescue was dropping team members down to the stranded couple and they would assess their condition. Life Flight was also on scene and standing by.
At about 10:30 p.m., Cannon tweeted that SAR members had reached the couple and were warming and feeding them. The next step would be to figure out the best way to get them off the mountain.
“Search and rescue will maybe warm them up and walk them out if possible, or fly them out on Life Flight. Or they may hunker down for the night,” Cannon said as rescuers were still working to reach the pair.
Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
