WASATCH FRONT, Utah, Dec. 31, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The Northern Wasatch Front is under a high-wind warning tonight through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City.
The areas most affected are those that are downslope and those prone to canyon wind, especially between Bountiful and Farmington, along the Layton bench, and at the mouth of Weber Canyon.
Wind coming from the east will be 30-40 miles per hour, with gusts up to 60 mph. Gusts could reach 75 mph between Centerville and Farmington, according to NWS.
The weather service is warning that roads and highways maybe extremely slick because of the wind, and there is concern about limited visibility due to blowing snow. Driver should also be aware that tree limbs and other debris could be blown into the roadway.
Residents may also experience power outages overnight in some areas.
A wind advisory is in effect until 8 a.m. Tuesday for the east bench of the Salt Lake Valley from Parley’s Canyon north to the University of Utah campus. Winds from the northeast will be 25-35 mph, with occasional gusts to 50 mph, according to NWS.
Motorists in the advisory area should be prepared for sudden gusty cross winds which can make driving difficult, the advisory says.
