SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah, April 14, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An investigation is underway after a man allegedly shot his brother during a family trip near Park City in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to a news release from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, officials received a 911 call Sunday at 2:43 a.m. from a man who said he had been shot by his brother.
The two brothers and their families were staying at the Westgate Hotel at 3000 W. Canyons Resort Drive in Summit County, the news release said.
“During the night, the victim alleges an argument took place between he and his brother,” the news release said. “During the argument the brother, identified as 32-year-old Christopher Leahy Head of South Jordan, presented a handgun and began firing it at his 35-year-old brother. One of the bullets struck the man in the right buttocks. Another bullet lodged into the wall of the hotel room.”
The victim was transported to a Salt Lake area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
During the altercation several family members, including children, were present. No other injuries were reported in the incident, the news release said.
Head was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail for the following charges:
- Attempted homicide, a first-degree felony
- Domestic violence in the presence of a child — three counts, a third-degree felony
- Discharge of a firearm — two counts, a third-degree felony
- Reckless endangerment — five counts, a class A misdemeanor
- Carrying a dangerous weapon while under the influence of alcohol, a class B misdemeanor
- Intoxication, a Class C misdemeanor
Head is being held on $100,000 cash only bail.
