WEST JORDAN, Utah, Aug. 30, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man suffered a critical head injury in West Jordan Friday morning when the bicycle he was riding hit a drainage area sunken in the roadway, and the drop sent the bike flipping into the side of a minivan.
The name of the 24-year-old man has not been released, Detective Ken Hansen, Unified Police Department, told Gephardt Daily.
The accident happened at 8:15 a.m. in the area of 6191 S. Park Wood Drive, West Jordan.
“He was riding his bike near 6200 South, moving pretty quickly,” Hansen said. “He crossed to go to the north side of the street and hit a drainage area that sinks down. When the bike hit that, it went end over end, into the van.”
At the time of the collision, the minivan was stationary, waiting to move forward in traffic, Hansen said.
No one in the van was injured, he said, but the van had four children inside, “and it certainly scared them,” Hansen said. The van was damaged on its right front quarter panel, he said.
As of noon, there was no update on the condition of the bicyclist, who was listed in “Delta” condition, meaning his injuries were critical and life threatening.
