UTAH, June 1, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Highway Patrol has released its Memorial Day weekend crash and citation totals.
A tweet from Utah Highway Patrol said that over the weekend, troopers handled:
- 41 DUIs
- 179 crashes
- Two fatal crashes
- 2,027 speeding citation/warnings
- 66 speed over 100 mph citations
- 298 seat belt citations
- 8 reckless driver citations
UHP had previously announced it would continue increased enforcement by targeting impaired drivers beginning Friday, and kicked off the extra enforcement with a DUI blitz in Salt Lake County.
“Memorial Day weekend marks the start of summer’s ‘100 Deadliest Days’ on Utah roadways,” said a news release from UHP. “Traffic fatality rates nearly double during this period.”
UHP added over 200 DUI enforcement shifts over the weekend, and will add another 700 shifts throughout June and July.
