SYRACUSE, Utah, April 18, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A Syracuse teen who on Monday night was hit by one car and thrown under another, which bystanders lifted off his broken body, has succumbed to his injuries.

The Syracuse Police Department announced the news at about noon on Tuesday on its Facebook page:

On April 17, 2017, at 8:30 P.M., 15-year-old Dakota Kilburn was crossing the street on the crosswalk in front of the junior high on 2000 West. Dakota was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound and was propelled into northbound lanes.

Dakota was pinned under another vehicle. Citizens in the area jumped into action and lifted the vehicle freeing him from under the vehicle. Dakota was flown to the hospital by helicopter in critical condition. Both drivers stayed on scene and are cooperating with the investigation.

Dakota passed away this morning from injuries sustained from the accident. The family has asked for privacy and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time.

A GoFundMe page has been established to help Kilburn’s family pay for medical and funeral expenses, it states.
