OGDEN, Utah, June 28, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning, the newly launched, locally owned, Ogden area heating and air-conditioning business — (801-658-2966) — is growing by leaps and bounds — thanks to their dedication to customer service and a 5-star reputation for quality work, fair pricing and punctuality.

Matt McFarland and his wife, Sarah, both lifelong residents of northern Utah, started the HVAC business last year, and since opening the doors in November 2024, business has been brisk.

In a recent interview with Bill’s Marketplace, McFarland and One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning’s Operations Manager Jason Burt talked about the budding enterprise and the word-of-mouth endorsements they credit for putting their company on the map.

The Decision to Launch

“Before Sarah and I decided on starting a local HVAC repair business, we did a lot of research,” McFarland said. “We spoke with friends, neighbors, family members, even fellow churchgoers — and decided, based on their feedback, that an honest and affordable HVAC company was something they really need,” McFarland said. “So, we decided to go for it. Not only could we form a business that would be in demand and poised for growth, we’d also provide communities from the Ogden area, all the way from Roy to Brigham City, with a service they could trust and really appreciate.

“And that’s what’s distinguished us from a lot of our competitors right from the start,” McFarland said. “Our reputation for being honest and transparent is what has people talking. We don’t take our customers for granted. We don’t try and upsell them at every turn of the road. As a locally owned business, we’re part of the close-knit community that calls the Ogden area, including Weber, Davis, Cache, Morgan, Box Elder, and even Salt Lake counties, home.

Hometown Values

“I grew up around here. My family founded McFarland Family Farms more than a hundred years ago, and whether it was a working dairy farm or a produce farm — now home to Utah’s best sweet corn — we’ve been serving the community for decades. We share the same values. We believe in the virtues of honesty and a hard day’s work. We show up on time, make a fair and honest assessment of what needs to be done. It’s a matter of integrity and a matter of respect.”

“Let’s face it,” Burt added, “whether you live in an older neighborhood, or one of those growing communities, like West Haven, West Point, Syracuse, Clearfield or Layton, you’ll be dealing with an HVAC issue before you know it. Won’t it be great to work with a 5-star, hometown, family-run business that’s honest and actually shares your values?”

“We know how daunting it can be when you’re searching Google for that ‘best air-conditioning or furnace repair company near me’ — and wondering who’ll show up,” McFarland said. “It’s our mission to take the guesswork out of that equation starting with an honest appraisal, transparent pricing, and some of the best warranties and guarantees in the business.”

“It’s a matter of integrity” Burt said, “and a matter of respect.”

Always on Time, or You Don’t Pay a Dime!

“That respect for our customers starts at the beginning, the minute our office manager, Rylie, answers the phone or receives an online service request,” Burt said. “She, and her husband, Mason — or one of our other gifted repair technicians — move quickly. We pride ourselves on offering same-day service, and once Rylie can get a sense of the issue a customer is facing, we take action.”

“And when we say we’re Always on time, or you don’t pay a dime,’ it’s more than a company motto,” McFarland interjected. “It’s a promise we make to our clients right out of the gate. Either we get to your home or business on time — any hour of the day or night — or our service fee is free. It’s a message we feel speaks directly to our professionalism and respect for the community we serve. Our pledge to be punctual is just one of the pillars in our Code of Ethics.

Building the One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning Team

“We interviewed a lot of different people before we started this venture, including folks who had a lot experience in the world of HVAC repairs and replacement, and knew all the ‘tricks of the trade,'” McFarland said. “While we certainly value experience, we were less impressed by those who touted those so-called ‘tricks,’ — the kind where every HVAC inspection or tune-up call magically results in a high-dollar project. Those gimmicks are an industry-wide problem, and we won’t play those games,” McFarland said emphatically. “We’re there to fix your problem, not to destroy your household budget.

“That’s why Jason Burt was our very first hire. First of all, he’s a Utah native and grew up in Cottonwood Heights, so there’s that,” McFarland said with a smile. “But he’d also worked for One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning nationally for nearly 20 years. During our interview, he did a great job speaking to the hometown values that are central to the national founders’ vision. So it was clear to us Jason sincerely shared our vision. We knew we could trust him to build and train a team that reflects who we are — a company dedicated to the communities we serve.

“And, now, thanks to Jason, we feel we have the best repair team in the state. Every single one of our employees watches out for our customers and each other, and in doing so, watches out for our new business. This level of attention is what’s generating those invaluable word-of-mouth endorsements, and been pivotal in fueling our growth.

“We couldn’t be prouder,” McFarland said, “but you don’t have to take our word for it; just take a look at what our customers are saying in our recent verified Google 5-star reviews.”

5 Star Google Reviews for Ogden-based ‘One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning’

Ashlee Hallowell — “Mason was great. He was meticulous in his inspection and gave me honest and candid information. He is very knowledgeable and you can tell he has a passion for his trade. There was no point during the appointment that felt pushy or like a sales pitch. When I am ready for a new unit, I will be calling Mason. One Hour has gained a new customer for life.”

Wendi W — “The technician was very professional. He showed up on time and ensured the floors in my home were kept clean by using covers on his shoes once entering my home. He took the time to answer questions and provide me necessary information about my system and the service. I will recommend One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning to everyone I know.”

Stephen Geukgeuzian — “Jeremy came out to do my AC and heating tune up. He was very professional and courteous. I highly recommend One Hour Heating and Air to everyone. Thank you for your service to our country as well, Jeremy!”

Gerri Wessner — “Mason & Corey were very professional and thorough. They let me know the condition of my system and provided suggestions without trying to push anything on me. Great service! Enjoy your lunch guys!”

Connor Johnson — “Where to even begin. Mason was so phenomenal! Mason went well out of his way to be so polite and respectful during a visit. He inspected very thoroughly, meticulously, and explained every part of what he was doing. Mason was incredibly knowledgeable and offered efficiency tips, and I can now say he is a friend. I cannot speak more highly of Mason! He is now the only call I will make when I need a tune up or a repair!”

HVAC Specialist Certifications

“While we really think those 5-star ratings speak for themselves, they also speak to our team’s ongoing training and certification as top-notch HVAC specialists,” Burt said.

“Few people seem to know, especially in Utah, that HVAC businesses are part of a largely unregulated industry. While there’s a lot of different licensing required for plumbers and electricians, where you have to have so many hours of training to become a licensed apprentice, journeyman or master in those trades, there’s nothing like that for HVAC. It’s truly the Wild West. Just about anyone who wants to can work in the HVAC industry and can do so without a lot training, and that’s a real point of difference between us and a lot of other local HVAC businesses.

“For example, every one of our repair people, including me, is EPA 608 certified in the proper handling and use of refrigerants, kind of important when dealing with air-conditioning systems. We are also certified to work as HVAC technicians by the Rocky Mountain Gas Association. And then, there’s N. A. T. E, the National Association for Technicians of Excellence. N.A.T.E certifications require rigorous training. We also have our certifications from the A.C.C.A., the Air Conditioner Contractors of America.

“I’ve also been trained and certified by BPI, the Building Performance Institute,” Burt said, “which specializes in home energy and building site audits. They’re foremost experts in thermal dynamics, including air flow, venting and leakage. I think most people would be surprised to know, for instance, that when you assess the air leakage in the average home around here, even in those which are newly built, they leak like a sieve. It’s as though they have a 3-foot by 3-foot window open, 24 hours a day! That’s why you hear homeowners saying things like, ‘It’s always cold over here,’ or ‘There’s no air coming out of this vent!’ Well, we know how to address that leakage, and make sure our customers aren’t paying high utility bills just to warm or cool that air that’s literally flying out the window.”

One Hour Discounts Military Families, Veterans, First Responders, EMTs, Nurses, Doctors, Teachers

“No conversation about the communities in northern Utah would be complete without considering the thousands of servicemen and women, including veterans and their families, who call the area home. The same is true of first responders, police, firefighters, EMTs, doctors, and even teachers. Where would we be without them?” McFarland said.

“That’s why we offer free tuneups for everyone I just mentioned. It’s our way of paying forward and showing our support. So, when we go into a home, we do more than just a cursory inspection. We do a full revitalization, including deep cleaning to make sure the HVAC systems are safe and ready to go.”

“It’s the least we could do,” Burt said, “and our repair people are dedicated to this mission. Just ask Jeremy Brown, one of our top guys. He served in the Navy and sailed some dangerous waters all across the world in service to our country. He takes great pride in serving fellow vets and their families, and he makes us proud every single day.”
