WHITLEY, England, July 13 (UPI) — Land Rover is recalling some 65,000 vehicles in response to reports a software glitch causes doors to unlatch, in some cases while the vehicle was in motion.

The recall affects 2014-2016 model year Range Rover Sports and 2013-2016 model year Range Rovers. The software glitch causes the doors to become unlatched even while in the closed position.

Land Rover says the problem can cause doors to open while the vehicles are being driven.

“This can increase the risk of a vehicle crash or compromise the safety of the vehicle occupants,” a description of the defect sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

Customers with either of the two models in question should take their vehicle to a dealership, where a software upgrade can be made to correct the problem.

Land Rover said it would be mailing letters of notification to owners starting Aug. 7.
