SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – July 23, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — What a fantastic time Gephardt Daily had on the Fourth of July.

It is that time again, July is almost over, but we have one more holiday where we can set off fireworks during this month. But where?

There are restrictions all over the state of Utah, which means you have to be very careful about where you decide to strike a match.

The July fireworks season has two open windows in Utah and anyone who is trying to buy or sell fireworks has to abide by the laws set in motion. Class “C” fireworks are items classified as 1.4G explosives and are consumer fireworks intended for use by the general public.

These fireworks are the only ones that are legally allowed to be detonated and can be bought and sold only during June 23 – July 27. However, just because you bought the fireworks does not mean you can set them off during those times.

The only times you can discharge fireworks are Tuesday July 21 – Monday 27, between the hours of 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. The only exception is on July 24, where the hours extend until midnight.

On the Utah State Fire Marshal’s website it states that Class C “Dangerous Explosives” are prohibited for sale or use in Utah as of 2011. Those include:

  • Firecracker, cannon cracker, ground salute
  • M-80, Cherry bomb, or other similar explosives
  • Skyrocket and missile Type Rocket
  • Single shot or reloadable aerial shell
  • Aerial salute, flash shell, a comet
  • A mine, or a cake containing more than 500 grams of pyrotechnic composition
  • Bottle rocket, roman candle, rocket mounted on a wire or stick
  • A device containing a rocket described in this subsection

The National Council has some tips on Fireworks Safety:

  1. Use fireworks outdoors only
  2. Obey local laws, if fireworks are not legal where you live, do not use them!
  3. Always have water handy (a hose or buckets of water)
  4. Only use fireworks as intended. DO NOT try to alter them or combine them
  5. Never re-light a “dud” firework (wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water)
  6. Use common sense when using fireworks. Spectators should keep a safe distance from the fireworks
  7. The person lighting the fireworks should wear safety glasses
  8. Alcohol and fireworks do not mix! Have a “designated” person light fireworks
  9. Only persons over the age of 12 should be allowed to handle sparklers of any type
  10. DO NOT ever use homemade fireworks or illegal explosives; they can kill!
  11. Report illegal explosives to the fire or police department in your community

There are a ton of places you can buy fireworks but one amazing location is called Blast Pyro. They have 4 different locations!

The Sandy location is at the High Point Shopping Center. 8010 S. 1300 East.

Blast Pyro’s West Valley location is outside the common area of the West Valley Fair Mall.

There are two location in Ogden as well. One of the locations is in South Ogden at 5600 S. Harrison Blvd. near the South end of the shopping center. North Ogden is where the last store is located, you will find it at 1853 N. Washington Blvd.

Stay safe this Fourth of July and Pioneer Day as well as any other designated days that you, your family or friends might be setting off fireworks.
