LOS ANGELES – December 22, 2015 — (UPI) — Johnny Depp has been named the most overpaid actor of 2015.

The 52-year-old star topped the annual Forbes list, which is based on the performance of actors’ last three films prior to June. Depp appeared in such flops as “Mortdecai,” returning only $1.20 at the box office for every $1 he was paid.

Depp was followed by ” 2 Guns” star Denzel Washington, who returned $6.50 for every $1, Anchorman 2 star Will Ferrell, who returned $6.80, “Run All Night” star Liam Neeson, who returned $7.20 and “Focus” star Will Smith, who returned $8.60.

“It’s like being a dog at the track,” Depp told Details of studio expectations last year. “They expect you to live up to some race you happened to be in and won accidentally. From that first second, you’re nothing more than a commodity.”

“They have expectations of another ‘Pirates’ [of the Caribbean],” he said of the $3.7 billion-grossing franchise. It’s great if something works. Boy, that’s killer. But God, to have that as your design… it’s ugly, I think.”

Depp last appeared in “Black Mass” and is slated for sequels “Alice Through the Looking Glass” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.” The actor will also star in “Yoga Hosers” with Kevin Smith and daughter Lily-Rose Depp.
