Actress, TV Personality Jayne Meadows Dead at 95
ENCINO, Calif., April 27 (UPI) — Beloved actress and television personality Jayne Meadows has died at her home in Encino, Calif. She was 95.
Her son, Bill Allen, confirmed her Sunday death to The New York Times Monday.
Meadows was married to entertainer Steve Allen, her frequent collaborator, for 46 years until his death in 2000. Her sister was The Honeymooners actress Audrey Meadows, who died in 1996.
Jayne Meadows made her Broadway debut in 1941 in Spring Again. Her other appearances on the New York stage included Another Love Story, Many Happy Returns, Kiss Them for Me,The Gazebo and Once in a Lifetime.
Among her screen credits were Undercurrent, Dark Delusion, Lady in the Lake, Song of the Thin Man, Enchantment, David and Bathsheba, College Confidential, Medical Center, Alice in Wonderland, Love, American Style and Homicide: Life on the Street.
Meadows was also a frequent contestant on TV game shows such as I’ve Got a Secret,What’s My Line? and Password.
The actress is survived by her son Bill, the president and chief executive of the nonprofit Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation, as well as three stepsons — Steve Jr., Brian and David; three grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, the Times noted.
