‘Beasts of No Nation’ Trailer Goes Viral; Gets 1.2M Views Since Friday

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 6 (UPI) — The trailer for Netflix’s Beasts of No Nation film — starring Idris Elba — has gotten more than 1.2 million views since it was posted on YouTube Friday.

“When civil war tears his family apart, a young West African boy is forced to join a unit of mercenary fighters and transform into a child soldier,” a synopsis said.

The film, which is already generating awards-season buzz, will be released in select theaters and on Netflix Oct. 16.

Written and directed by True Detective‘s Cary Fukunaga, the drama is based on the acclaimed novel by Nigerian author Uzodinma Iweala and tells the story of Agu, a child soldier torn from his family to fight in a civil war.

Newcomer Abraham Attah plays Agu, while Elba portrays Commandant, a warlord who takes in Agu and instructs him in the ways of war.

Elba is best known for his work on the celebrated TV shows The Wire and Luther. He has also appeared in the films American Gangster, Thor, Prometheus, Pacific Rim,Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and Thor: The Dark World.
