Bring Out Your Dead? Maybe Not.

Lazarus Effect - Gephardt Daily

Bring Out Your Dead? Maybe Not.

Ladies, don’t you hate it when your fiancé brings you back from the dead? Professor Zoe (played by Olivia Wilde) does not take it at all well when Frank (played by Mark Duplass) uses their experimental Lazarus serum on her after Zoe accidentally electrocutes herself during an attempt to revive a canine corpse.

Aided by special effects, Zoe wreaks havoc with telekinetic and mind-reading powers while repeatedly revisiting a childhood tragedy. Meanwhile, Frank haplessly tries to cure or kill his crazed beloved.

The story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead is found in John 11. “The Lazarus Effect” is about seeing if you can bring someone back from the dead who has completely flat lined without any brain damage. And is that science right or wrong?

Frank is a scientist and he doesn’t believe in God, but he experiences something in this film which is beyond science. In the featurette Father Jonathan Morris stated, “Science and faith are like two wings and they need each other. Just because we can do something does not mean that we should and there are consequences to bad ethical choices.” Morris is a Roman Catholic Priest and author.

This movie was directed by David Glep and written by Luke Dawson, who wrote the script for “Shutter”, and Jeremy Slater, who wrote the script for “Fantastic Four”.
