SAN DIEGO, July 23 (UPI) — “Shin Godzilla,” the latest installment in Toho Company’s famed creature-feature franchise, will be released by Funimation Films in North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

The special effects-laden, live-action picture is slated to hit Japanese screens July 29 and western theaters in late 2016. The 29th “Godzilla” film produced by Toho is co-directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi. The film stars Hiroki Hasegawa, Satomi Ishihara and Yutaka Takenouchi.

“Funimation is extremely pleased to be working with Toho to bring “Shin Godzilla” to audiences across the Americas,” Gen Fukunaga, chief executive officer and president of Funimation, said in a statement.

“‘Shin Godzilla’ represents a brand-new chapter in the 62-year history of this iconic, science-fiction monster,” added Mike DuBoise, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Funimation. “We’re excited to bring audiences this new vision of “Godzilla” from Toho as reimagined by directors Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi.”

The film is known as “Godzilla Resurgence” in some territories. A trailer for the movie released earlier this week has gone viral.
