NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., Sept. 8 (UPI) — John Hostetter, best known for appearing on popular CBS sitcom “Murphy Brown,” has died at the age of 69.
Hostetter’s death was announced in the obituary section of the Evening Sun and stated that he died Sept. 2 in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, after a long battle with cancer.
The actor famously appeared as stage manager John on fictional news program FYI on “Murphy Brown” for more than 60 episodes from 1988 to 1998.
Outside of Murphy Brown, Hostetter appeared in a number of television shows such as “CHiPs,” “Simon & Simon,” “Hill Street Blues,” “The Golden Girls,” “Moonlighting,” “Family Ties,” “Dallas,” “L.A. Law,” “Matlock,” “MacGyver,” “NYPD Blue,” “ER” and “JAG.”
Hostetter also enjoyed a career in films with roles in “Into the Night,” “Heartbreak Ridge,” “Beverly Hills Cop II,” “No Way Out” and “Star Trek: Insurrection.” He also became a noted voice actor in animated shows and movies including “G.I. Joe,” “Princess Mononoke,” “Twilight of the Dark Master” and video game “Vampire Hunter D.”
Hostetter is survived by his wife of 40 years Del, his sister Flora, three nephews and a grand-nephew.
