LOS ANGELES, March 31 (UPI) — Jon Bernthal has detailed a pair of intense encounters he had with fans after it was announced he would be portraying Marvel anti-hero, The Punisher.

The actor who first appears as the vigilante in Season Two of Netflix’s hit superhero drama “Daredevil,” recalled the fan interactions on “Conan” Wednesday, explaining how passionate comic book readers are for the character.

Bernthal mentions to late night host Conan O’ Brien, that after being cast, he started visiting various comic book stores around the country in order to prepare himself for the role.

The first visit went smoothly with the 39-year-old even being offered free comics. However, things went differently during a visit to a comic book store in New York City.

“I go into a comic book store in Brooklyn,” he said. “I get a whole stack and I go up to buy them and he looks at me and goes, ‘Yeah, I know who you are.'” The owner then picked apart Bernthal’s collection of Punisher comics and recommended other ones instead. “Do not mess this up,” the owner sternly exclaimed.

“Daredevil” Season Two is streaming now on Netflix.
