NEW YORK, Nov. 4 (UPI) — Mo’Nique is setting the record straight on her much-discussed open marriage.

The 48-year-old actress explained on Thursday’s episode of “Watch What Happens Live” that her open relationship with husband Sidney Hicks is about “honesty,” not sleeping with other people.

“The rule is simply honesty,” Mo’Nique told host Andy Cohen. “It’s so not about sex. It’s so not about can you be with other people. It’s simply about I won’t take any secrets to my grave, nor will he take any to his, and we’ve been married for a decade now.”

“When we first got into it, it was my idea … I was still in the mindset of ‘I’m an entertainer, I’m a performer and I want to have it all,'” she said. “Now, almost 11 years later, of course it’s evolved. It’s evolved into this beautiful space of no secrets.”

Mo’Nique and Hicks married in 2006 and share 11-year-old twin sons Jonathan and David. The couple shared similar sentiments about their marriage during a joint appearance on “The Preachers” in July.

“[Sidney] is my best friend ever. What I did not want to do is be dishonest with my best friend [because] there may be times I want to be with other men,” the actress said at the time. “I wanted to be open and honest with the person I was going to spend the rest of my life with.”

“By [open relationship], we mean that we’re always open to conversation,” Hicks added. “We’re open to the understandings that man and woman, or as a couple, we should have for one another.”

Mo’Nique is known for playing Nikki on “The Parkers” and has since starred in “Precious” and the HBO biopic “Bessie.” She will next appear in “Almost Christmas” with Danny Glover and Jessie Usher.
