LOS ANGELES, May 29 (UPI) — Suge Knight is seeking to have his murder case dismissed.

The 50-year-old music producer’s attorney, Matthew Fletcher, filed to have the case dismissed prior to Knight’s hearing Friday.

Knight subsequently replaced Fletcher with former Michael Jackson lawyer Thomas Mesereau, who successfully defended the late pop star against child molestation charges in 2005.

“I have had hours of discussions with Mr. Knight, and I am convinced he is innocent,” the attorney told reporters. “This case is going to be tried in the courtroom, not the media. No further comment.”

Knight’s hearing was postponed until July 7 to allow Mesereau time to familiarize himself with the case. Fletcher told the New York Daily News he learned of the switch when he arrived in court to argue the motion to dismiss.

“I wish him good luck,” he said of his now-former client. “I did everything I set out to do. It’s an unlosable case. It was an unlosable case with me and it is with Tom Mesereau. Suge should be allowed to go home.”

Knight is accused of purposely running down Terry Carter and Cle “Bone” Sloan with his vehicle. He faces murder, attempted murder and two hit-and-run charges for the January incident, which left Carter dead.
