HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA – September 10, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Tom Cruise may be heading into space in his next film.

Variety is reporting Cruise is joining producer Doug Liman to develop and star in “Luna Park” for Paramount.

It’s still early in the process and there’s many factors to consider such as scripts, production costs and casting but insiders say there’s enough interest in the project to take the first few steps in the development process.

“Luna Park” has been on the back burner for some time and Liman was prepared to move forward with he project three years ago. Names like Chris Evans and Andrew Garfield have been bandied about as leads.

Despite a “go ahead” from Paramount and Skydance, production was stopped because of budget excesses.

Both Skydance and Paramount may still have some skin in the game given the relationship they have with Cruise. After his big box office triumph with “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation,” Cruise just might have enough star power to get the project rolling again.

When production would begin is still in question, as Cruise is about to start production on “Jack Reacher 2” and is expected to shoot another “Mission: Impossible” pic sometime next year.

According to Variety, Cruise is very particular about the directors he works with and looks to have become very comfortable with Liman after shooting “Edge of Tomorrow” for Warner Bros., which grossed more than $350 million worldwide, and the upcoming drug thriller “Mena,” which opens in January.
