April 24 (UPI) — Frito-Lay voluntarily recalled some jalapeno-flavored potato chips because of the potential presence of Salmonella in the seasoning, the Food & Drug Administration announced.

Affected by the recalls are Jalapeno Flavored Lay’s Kettle Cooked and Jalapeno Flavored Miss Vickie’s Kettle Cooked potato chips, the FDA said Friday.

No reported illnesses have been reported for the products, which were distributed in retail stores and other food services throughout the United States.

A supplier recently recalled a seasoning blend that includes jalapeño powder, which could contain Salmonella. Frito-Lay said no Salmonella was found in seasoning supplied but the company opted to recall the products as a precaution.

All sizes of the products have a “guaranteed fresh” date of July 4 or prior printed on the front upper panel of the package.

Also, multi-pack products with a “use by” date of June 20 are affected by the recall, including: “12 count Lay’s Kettle Cooked Multi-pack Sack,” “20 count Frito-Lay Bold Mix Sack,” “30 count Miss Vickie’s Multi-pack Tray,” “30 count Lay’s Kettle Cooked Multi-pack Tray,” and “32 count Miss Vickie’s Multi-pack Box.”

Not affected are other Frito-Lay products, including Jalapeño Cheddar Flavored Lay’s Kettle Cooked 40% Less Fat potato chips.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, according to the FDA. Healthy persons often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
