3rd man injured in Moab mine accident has died

SAN JUAN COUNTY, Utah, Nov. 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man who was critically injured in an industrial accident, in which two other men were killed, died Tuesday, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Arthur Secrest was injured Saturday afternoon when he and two other men, Russell Helquist and Matthew Johnston, were extracting a pump from one of the pond pits at the Intrepid Potash Mine, a fertilizer plant on Highway 279, south of Moab.

The telescoping forklift they were using to lift the pump came in contact with a power line.

According to reports at that time, Secrest was found unconscious but breathing and was flown to the hospital in Salt Lake City.

All three men were from the Moab area.

The sheriff’s office news release said, “Once again, our condolences go out to the family and friends of Arthur Secrest, Russell Helquist and Matthew Johnston.”
