WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 21, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Four people were injured, one critically, in a 5-vehicle pileup on Bangerter Highway, which was caused by a woman who ran into a line of four stopped cars, Unified Police officials say.

Besides the critically injured man, three other passengers in the stopped vehicles were seriously injured. The female driver of a silver SUV that hit the stopped cars is being investigated for possible driving under the influence, Detective Ken Hansen, Unified Police Department, said at the scene.

Police got a call at about 11:45 a.m. warning of a driver, traveling at a high rate of speed and erratically, Hansen said.

“Unfortunately, they were unable to catch up with the driver in time,” Hansen said. “The vehicle hit the back of some other vehicles that were stopped at 126th South and Bangerter, pushing them into each other, resulting in a five-car accident.”

“The driver who caused the accident is right now being processed for possible impairment. It appears to be alcohol or drug impairment…. As you look at this crash, the driver didn’t make any attempts to stop, so the impact speeds are pretty high.”

The female driver had not yet been charged, and her name was not released. She only suffered seatbelt injuries, Hansen said.

“Don’t drive impaired in any manner or form,” Hansen said, saying the suspect’s driving was bad enough to attract the attention of one or more people who called police.

Investigators were documenting the scene as of 1:15 p.m., and would likely be on the scene for several hours, Hansen said.

The area of Bangerter closed is between 11800 and 12600 South, he said.

  1. I truly hope for a full and speedy recovery for the victims!

Also, that’s not West Valley. WVC doesn’t extend all the way to 11800/12600 South. South Jordan? Maybe Riverton?
If you were on Bangerter and 4700 South, you’d be in Taylorsville and out of WVC already.
