CARBON COUNTY, Utah, Nov. 11, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — In one of the biggest fish drops of the year, wildlife officials deposited 42,000 rainbow trout in Scofield Reservoir.

“Scofield Reservoir = restocked, y’all!” the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources announced Monday.

“We recently stocked 42,000, 10-inch rainbow trout into Scofield State Park and they’re ready for you to come catch ‘em.”

The fish journeyed from Utah’s Fountain Green State Hatchery, where they have been cared for by dedicated hatchery staff for an entire year, the DWR said.

They were hauled from the Sanpete County facility to the reservoir in one of the division’s specialized hatchery semi-trucks.

“Summer may be over, but fall fishing is still in full swing and Utah’s state parks offer many fun opportunities to enjoy the outdoors year round.” the division advised.

The actual introduction of the fish to the reservoir took six trucks with 7,000 rainbows each to do it in one day, according to Scofield State Park.

The effort was among 2025’s largest, one of only a handful of 5-figure dumps, according to DWR record-keeping, exceeded only by the 2.5 million walleye added to Willard Bay State Park over several days in April.
