ROY, Utah, April 22, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — An active-duty military member has been sentenced after his vehicle hit a 77-year-old woman in Roy almost a year ago, and he left the scene.

Sgt. Jose Wilfredo Salgado-Rivera, 29, of Clearfield, hit the pedestrian on April 30, 2025. He later turned himself in to police, and was charged with failure to remain at an accident involving serious injury, a third-degree felony.

On March 10 of this year, Salgado-Rivera pleaded guilty to abuse or neglect of vulnerable adult by criminal negligence, a third-degree felony.

At sentencing, a judge ordered him to serve 170 days in jail, but suspended all but 45. Salgado-Rivera must report to the Weber County jail by Friday of this week. Following his release, Salgado-Rivera faces three years on probation.
