SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – October 22, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a Utah sorority is holding its annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event Friday.

The event, put on by University of Utah’s Beta Nu Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega, sees participants don their favorite high heels and ‘walk a mile’ to help raise awareness of domestic violence through educating others, commending work being done and help others to work to build healthy relationships, according to their event page.

Alpha Chi Omega CEO/Executive Director Tami Shields Silverman said:“Domestic violence awareness and education has been our national philanthropy for more than 20 years. Our work is intended to help young women feel empowered to develop healthy relationships for themselves and create a supportive environment for their peers. It’s about giving our members the support and resources to grow as real, strong women, while also instilling trust and confidence to know when and how to ask for help.”

Anyone can still register for the walk online or at the event from 5:30-6 p.m. The walk fee is $10 and it starts at 6:15 p.m. at Liberty Park at the purple balloon arch.

The money raised will go to the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition and a small portion to the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation.
