SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH ─ November 12 (Gephardt Daily) ─ Jackie Biskupski, the openly gay candidate who is predicted to be Salt Lake City’s mayor when all election results are in, wants to schedule a meeting with Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officials to talk about church policies regarding regarding homosexual members and their children.

A new LDS handbook provided to bishops and other church leaders reaffirmed the church’s non-acceptance of homosexual marriages or couples, and also added that the children living with two homosexual parents would be banned from church rites including baptism until the children reached age 18 and renounced their parents’ lifestyle.

“She does not have a meeting scheduled yet, so we don’t have any timetable for a press statement,” said Maryann Martindale, Biskupski’s campaign spokeswoman.

Biskupski mentioned her desire for meeting with church officials in an interview with the Salt Lake Tribune.

“I think it’s very important, no matter what, to maintain strong working relationships, and I just want to have a chance to have a personal conversation about this particular policy and the impacts it’s having,” Biskupski told the Salt Lake Tribune. “It’s a high priority, and I’m trying to get in for a meeting now.”

Biskupski said she hoped to meet soon after Nov. 17, when election tallies will be finalized.

  1. Good Luck Ms. Biskupski. The Church leadership have stated God’s position on this issue. There’s nothing you could possibly do or say to persuade the Prophet to petition God on behalf of the population who ignores His commands. Nice thought, though.

  2. God Bless her for wanting to try! I’ve lead organizations and made efforts to meet with these Mormon Leaders only to have them not even respond with courtesy, but make false comments about my organizations in the past. I’m working hard at forgiving them for misrepresenting Jesus as they say they represent him, but instead do the oppisite with their actions and how they do business. Often in the most harmful & hurtful ways.
