AMERICAN FORK CANYON, Utah, Oct. 6, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have identified a 60-year-old Cedar Hills man found dead in American Fork Canyon Thursday morning.
Utah County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Spencer Cannon said Arthur Wayne Wiseman left home about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday to go on a short hike, and was expected to return before dark.
Cannon said deputies were dispatched to a report of the overdue hiker in American Fork Canyon at about 4 a.m. after Wiseman’s family searched the Mineral Basin area for several hours but did not find him or his truck. Deputies and search and rescue also did not find him.
A short time after the family first called, at about 5:50 a.m, a man hiking on a trail above Granite Flat camp ground called from the emergency phone at Tibble Fork reservoir reporting he found a body on a trail near the Silver Lake Flat Road.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office responded and determined the man was Wiseman. He appeared to have stopped and had taken off his gloves and glasses.
Wiseman did not appear to have sustained trauma and circumstances in this case are not suspicious.
Wiseman’s body was recovered and was taken to the Office of Medical Examiner in Salt Lake.
Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
