BEAVER COUNTY, Utah, Nov. 17, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man charged with 24 counts of sex-related crimes against one or more minors, and who fled after posting bail, has turned himself in.

Beaver County Sheriff Cameron Noel said in a news release that Destry Mel Stewart, 43, was taken into custody at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

According to the release, Noel was asked at 5:30 p.m. to call one of Stewart’s family members. The family member told Noel that they were with Stewart and that Stewart wanted to turn himself in.

Noel spoke briefly with Stewart, who assured the sheriff that he would be coming in to the BCSO, which he did at 7:30 p.m. He was taken into custody at that time.

A no-bail warrant had been issued for Stewart’s arrest earlier in the week after he failed to come to a scheduled court appearance, and his vehicle was later found abandoned in rural Millard County. He had been released on $160,000 bail.

The Beaver County Sheriff’s Office had released a wanted poster for Stewart, who was charged with:
  • One count of rape, a first-degree felony
  • One count of forcible sodomy with a person age 14 or younger, a first-degree felony
  • Twenty-two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old, a third-degree felony

It isn’t yet known what charges Stewart may face for fleeing.
