A Millcreek man was rushed to the hospital late Thursday night after apparently being pistol whipped during an apparent robbery attempt.

According to Lt. Justin Hoyal of Unified Police, the victim, whose identity has yet to be released, was beaten by an unknown assailant at an apartment complex at 1366 East Royal Troon Drive, 4366 South around 11:15 p.m.

Hoyal said the attack happened while the victim was meeting with two strangers who had responded to his online classified ad for a laptop computer.

Investigators say the victim first met the men in the apartment’s parking lot before returning to a residence to retrieve the laptop. He was about to enter the apartment when one of the men attacked him, striking him with a pistol.

The assailant escaped, along with an accomplice, in a light colored passenger car.

Multiple neighbors reporting hearing a gunshot during the attack, but police investigators have yet to confirm that.

Lt. Hoyal said the victim’s was taken by ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center where he was listed in fair condition.

According to police, Thursday night’s attack should serve as a warning, that anytime people are meeting in response to a classified ad that the meeting take place in a well-light, populated public area.
