Canyonland Nat’l Park pauses backcountry activities in The Needles district

CANYONLANDS NATIONAL PARK, Utah, June 28, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Canyonlands National Park has “paused” backcountry activities in Needles District due to a wildfire.

The Babylon Fire is burning near Blanding.

The Canyonlands announcement, posted Sunday afternoon, is effective immediately, the social media post said.

The Needles Visitor Center is closed. No new backcountry overnight or day use permits will be issued nor new reservations allowed for The Needles Campground until further notice.

The Babylon Fire is located within Bears Ears National Monument and is not currently burning within Canyonlands National Park.
