GLEN CANYON NATIONAL RECREATION AREA, Utah and Arizona, July 19, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Visitors at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area are advised to use caution due to fire suppression aircraft drawing water from Lake Powell.
“To assist with nearby wildfires, fire suppression aircraft will be drawing water from Lake Powell between buoys 43 and 49 to refill tanks as part of ongoing firefighting operations,” says a statement issued by the National Park Service.
“The aircraft using Lake Powell will consist of fixed-wing Super Scoopers (amphibious aircraft). Glen Canyon rangers will be providing vessel support during aircraft operations on the lake.”
Until further notice, boaters are advised to avoid or limit to transit only on Lake Powell between Dangling Rope to Rainbow Bridge, the release says.
“Boaters need to monitor marine radio channel 16. A temporary flight restriction is also in place for public safety during aerial operations.
