ST. GEORGE, Utah, Jan. 30, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A man found naked, cold and disoriented in a farmer’s field in Washington City, who was confirmed to be a convicted sex offender with a warrant out for his arrest, was treated for hypothermia and later booked into jail.

David Nicholas King, 52, is facing charges of:

  • Lewdness by a sex offender, a third-degree felony
  • Failure to register as a sex offender, a third-degree felony
  • Possession of a controlled substance, marijuana/spice, a class B misdemeanor

A St. George Police officer was dispatched at 7:49 a.m. Monday to the area of 2020 S. Franklin Drive, Washington City, on a report of a suspicious vehicle, a probable cause statement says. The complainant had first noticed the vehicle, empty with doors open, at 10 p.m. Sunday, the statement says.

A responding officer found an empty green Saturn with the driver’s door and the rear passenger’s side door open. Inside the car, sandals and car keys were found, and THC was later discovered.

The car was registered to King, “a registered and non-compliant sex offender,” the statement says.

While driving around the area looking for King, the officer was waved down by a field worker.

“The male stated that he was feeding the cows, when he came across a man in the field that was laying on the ground completely naked,” the statement says. “He stated the male was just watching him and it freaked him out.”

The officer waited for backup to arrive, then the three officers approached King, and rolled him over to place him in handcuffs.

“David was unable to stand, he was conscious but not making any sense,” the statement says. “He seemed as if he was in another dimension and was looking around, asking ‘What’s that?’ and appearing as if he was scared of whatever it was he was seeing, but was not actually present. David had an unknown blue colored substance surrounding his mouth.”

King was placed on a gurney and transported by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center.

“While at the hospital, I learned that David’s body temperature was 84 degrees, which is considerably lower than the normal 98 degrees,” the arresting officer’s statement says. “Doctors were concerned and were surprised he was not going into cardiac arrest due to the low body temperature. David was acting confused and would not let medical staff attend to his care, without much convincing.”

After medical release, King was booked into jail, where he is being held without bail.
