WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Aug. 20, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Crews are battling a fast moving grass fire in West Valley City Monday afternoon.

The fire, which was first reported just before 4 p.m., is burning in the area of State Route 111 and 5400 South.

There is no word yet on how big the fire is or what caused it.

West Jordan Fire and Unified Fire Authority has joined West Valley City Fire to fight the blaze.

Utah Department of Transportation tweeted that both directions of SR-111 are closed between 4100 South and 5400 South, and drivers are being urged to avoid the area and use Mountain View Corridor as an alternative route. The road is expected to reopen by 5:10 p.m.

Gephardt Daily has a crew on the way to the scene and will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
