COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah, Nov. 9, 2023 (Gephardt Daily) — Firefighters extinguished an apartment fire that damaged multiple units in Cottonwood Heights on Thursday afternoon.

An attic fire caused damage to an eight-unit building in the 2300 bock of 6895 South, according to the Unified Fire Authority.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke in the building. Due to deep insulation in the attic, the fire spread through walls into adjoining units, damaging multiple residences, UFA officials said.

Firefighters had to remove most of the ceiling and vacuum out the insulation to stop the spread, according to UFA.

The American Red Cross is assisting families displaced by the fire. The top three units in the building were vacant, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
