MILLCREEK, Utah, June 18, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Hazmat crews from Unified Fire and at least two other agencies have responded to a 55-gallon barrel leaking gas at a Millcreek business Tuesday afternoon.

“There was a 55 gallon barrel drum that was off gassing and producing a lot of white smoke,” Ben Porter, spokesman for UFA, told Gephardt Daily.

“The situation is stabilizing, and they’re just going to continue monitoring it.”

The incident was dispatched at 12:04 p.m. Other agencies on scene, near 210 W. 3900 South, include the South Salt Lake and Murray Fire departments. The Salt Lake County Health Department also responded.

The involved business and neighboring businesses have been evacuated, Porter said. No residential evacuations are in place.

North- and southbound Trax trains have been asked to stop using the nearby tracks, Porter said.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area.

Gephardt Daily will have additional information as more details are released.
