SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – May 8, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released another statement on the health if its top leaders, the third such statement in the last three weeks.According to the Friday afternoon press release, Elder Richard G. Scott, age 86, of the Quorum of Twelves Apostles, is recovering at home after recently being hospitalized for internal bleeding attributed to a stomach ulcer. The church statement also said that Scott, “known for his gentle manner and determined service” was “experiencing a fading memory incident to age” and was no longer able to participate in Quorum of Twelve meetings.

The LDS Church also addressed the health of Elder L. Tom Perry. Perry, 92, is also a member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles and had recently been hospitalized while being treated for thyroid cancer. According to the church statement, Perry has “resumed his responsibilities” and attended all scheduled meetings this last week involving the Quorum of Twelve.

Last week, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released a statement discussing the health of Church President Thomas S. Monson. Questions about Monson’s health began circulating April when the 87-year old church leader opted out of a Salt Lake City meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama. At the time, the LDS Church said Monson was saving his strength for General Conference weekend.  In a subsequent press release the church said:

“President Monson is 87. It’s natural that he and others in the Church leadership are feeling the effects of advancing age,” the statement said.  “However, he spoke publicly at General Conference earlier this month and attended all meetings. He comes to the office every day, attends all First Presidency and committee meetings, leads the discussion, and makes decisions.  The workload of the First Presidency is up to date.  President Monson has always been private about his health, but appreciates the prayers and sustaining support of Church members, as do all of the First Presidency and the Twelve.”
