Investigators who are still trying to determine exactly what happened, said witnesses report the couple, identified as Barbara North and her husband Darrell North, 83,  may have been trapped on the tracks between two closed crossing arms.

Investigators believe Mr. North, who was driving may have become confused when the security arms came down, leaving them stuck on the tracks.

According to the Utah Transit Authority, 90 passengers were on-board the train at the time of the crash. None of them were injured.

Darrell North is still in critical condition at Utah Valley Medical Center.
