Garage Fire, Explosion Rattles West Jordan Neighborhood

WEST JORDAN, Utah, July 17, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — West Jordan firefighters were called to the scene of an explosion and fire at 1469 W. 8230 South Sunday.

The first calls came into dispatch at about 12:30 p.m. with reports of a fire at a single-family home.

A subsequent call reported an explosion inside a detached garage connected to the residence by a short breezeway.

Fire investigators told Gephardt Daily the garage housed a number of recreational vehicles, along with welding and oxygen tanks. They were uncertain if the tanks were the source of the explosions.

First crews were able to knock down the blaze at about 1 p.m., but continued to mop up hot spots throughout the afternoon.

There were no reports of injuries.

Damage was to the garage and vehicles inside are estimated between $50 to 100K.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
