OREM, Utah, May 10, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — The last act of a motorcyclist killed Saturday in an Orem collision was one that saved the life of his young daughter, a statement from the family says.

A GoFundMe account was posted on behalf of Jeremy Huddleston Schmidt by a family member, it says.

“On May 8th 2021 Jeremy was hit and killed on his motor cycle at 400 N. State Street in Orem,” the account says. “His daughter Chanel was on the back. Right before the truck hit Jeremy he shoved his daughter off of the bike and saved her life. She has a few bumps and bruises.”

The account says it is raising funds for Schmidt’s burial.

“He leaves behind two beautiful children. We would appreciate anything you can donate to help put his body to rest.”

Orem police told Gephardt Daily on Saturday that a man died and his daughter was injured in Orem when a vehicle struck the motorcycle they were riding.

“There was an accident between two vehicles, and the second one hit the motorcycle,” Lt. Nick Thomas, Orem Police Department, said.

“When officers arrived, the male (motorcycle) driver was deceased. His daughter (had been) on the back, and she was transported with some injuries to the hospital,” Thomas said.

“She was OK. She was talking when they took her to the hospital.”

Thomas said he had not heard of any injures to the people in the primary accident, between the two larger vehicles.

Thomas said the incident is still under investigation, and he should have more information later this week.
