SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – June 27, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – This year’s Utah Arts Festival’s Artist Marketplace represents a comprehensive overview of how 21st century artists have come into their own careers. Some started from childhood passions strengthened their inspirations with formal training in college while others were personally motivated to experiment with technique and form by trial and error. From June 25-28, Library Square in downtown Salt Lake City plays host to 169 visual artists: 122 from outside of Utah and 59 appearing for the first time at the Festival. In addition, there are dozens of artists whose work will be featured in exhibitions and some who are leading workshops.

Disciplines include a varied array of painting and drawing styles, from abstract to impressionistic, in media ranging from oils to ink and watercolor. Also included in the Artist Marketplace are ceramics, photography, printmaking, 2-D and 3-D mixed media, sculpture, and wearable art. The Festival and The City Library will showcase Utah’s top youth talent by featuring the works from the 2014 & 2015 Traveling Exhibition of the Utah All-State High School Art Show. The exhibit, presented in partnership with the Utah Division of Arts & Museums and the Springville Museum of Art, is part of the Utah Division of Arts & Museums’ Traveling Exhibition Program.

The Festival continues to expand meaningful art interactions for the community through artistic workshops and demonstrations inside the Library. Art at the Main will host free special art techniques and demonstrations taught by artists each weekend through July. Visit uaf.org/workshops for registration information.

Visitors can cast their ballots in the People’s Choice Awards, helping to pick the top artist of the Festival. Voting will take place at the Festival Media Lounge throughout the Festival until Sunday, June 28, at 5 p.m. Visitors may also vote via the official Utah Arts Festival iPhone or Android apps. The artist with the most votes will be announced Sunday at 7 p.m.
