TOOELE, Utah, Nov. 19, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Fire crews were called to the scene of a kitchen fire Monday, and arrived to find visible smoke and flames starting to come through the roof.

Tooele Assistant Fire Chief Jed Colovich said the call came in around 5:40 p.m., reporting a fire in a rambler-style home in the area of 923 West and 470 South.

He said the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but it appears that it may have started with some type of cooker, such as a crock pot or pressure cooker.

“The kitchen area suffered the most damage,” Colovich told Gephardt Daily, “but the entire main floor had smoke and water damage.”

The two residents were able to evacuate safely and no one was injured.

Colovich said the fire could have been much worse, but crews managed to get on scene quickly and had the fire extinguished within about 10 minutes. Overhaul and mop up took about another half-hour.

Tooele Fire responded with two engines, two brush trucks and a ladder truck. Colovich said between 30 and 35 firefighters were on scene.

He estimated damage at $50,000 to $60,000.

The Red Cross was contacted to assist the couple who have been temporarily displaced, but Colovich said it’s possible the couple had already arranged other accommodations.
