SOUTHERN UTAH, May 12, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for portions of far southern Utah.

“Winds are expected to pick up across southern Utah on Saturday, which may lead to critical fire weather conditions as hot and dry conditions remain in place,” said a tweet from the National Weather Service Salt Lake City.

The watch is in place from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, the tweet said, and applies to St. George, Kanab, the Glen Canyon and Grand Staircase National Recreation Areas and Zion National Park.

Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are possible. Minimum relative humidity values as low as 6%.

“Any fire starts will have the potential to grow rapidly and out of control,” the tweet said. “Outdoor burning is not recommended.”

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
