UTAH COUNTY, Utah, Feb. 19, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — A 40-year-old man injured in a ski accident Wednesday has been transported off the mountain, and was headed to Provo’s Utah Valley Hospital.

The man suffered significant head injuries when he skied into a tree, Sgt. Spencer Cannon, Utah County Sheriff’s Office, told Gephardt Daily.

“Exact condition unknown except he sustained serious head and other injuries,” Cannon tweeted shortly after 9 p.m.

Cannon told Gephardt Daily earlier that the victim, found below Spanish Fork Peak, above Mapleton, could not move, or feel his lower body. LifeFlight officials responded to the scene and dropped supplies to keep the victim warm, Cannon said.

A Department of Public Safety helicopter arrived, and local officials opted to transport the patient off the mountain by DPS helicopter, then send him by ground ambulance to the Provo hospital.

Gephardt Daily will have more information as it becomes available.
