WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, July 15, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — A fundraiser has been established for a victim stabbed at Valley Fair Mall in an attack described as religiously motivated.
The victim is Syed Sohail Uddin. He was stabbed Monday while working at a kiosk at Valley Fair Mall. The person subdued by bystanders and arrested for investigation of attempted murder is Peter Michael Larsen, 48.
Larsen’s arrest document says he told investigators “he had targeted the victim with intent to kill him because of his religion (Muslim).” Larsen also told officers “he believes he is a catalyst and he intends to kill Muslims.”
The fundraising account for Uddin says he is “a devoted husband and father who has always worked hard to support his family.
“Recently, Sohail was the victim of a horrific hate crime, suffering over 15 stab wounds. He is now in critical condition, facing multiple surgeries for his hands, heart, and lungs,” the GoFundMe account says. “The road ahead is long and uncertain, and his family is deeply worried about his recovery and well-being.
“Sohail does not have health insurance, and the medical bills for his emergency care, surgeries, and ongoing physical therapy are overwhelming. As the main provider for his wife and children, Sohail’s absence has left his family in a vulnerable position, both emotionally and financially. Luna and those close to Sohail are reaching out for help to ensure he receives the care he needs and to support his family during this incredibly difficult time.”
