UTAH COUNTY, April 22, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah Fire Info reported late Wednesday afternoon that the Goshen Canyon Fire is now 50% contained, and is estimated at 408 acres.
Mop-up efforts are progressing well, the update says.
“This fire was human caused and investigation is ongoing. Preliminary findings by our investigation is pointing towards target shooting as the cause.”
The post said it was “the last update unless significant changes occur,” adding “Stay safe and informed.”
The fire was first reported at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and is located three miles south of Goshen, the UFI statement says. An earlier update said three structures were threatened, but no primary structures have been damaged as of noon Wednesday.
“Additional resources arrived at the fire this morning from the state of Utah, Forest Service, BLM and local fire departments,” a Utah Interagency Fire fact sheet said.
The fire is being fueled by grass, sage and juniper. Resources at the scene Wednesday morning include six fire engines, two dozers, one water tender and three crews, with total personnel at 67.

On Tuesday night, the three structures were evacuated, but all residents were later permitted to return to their houses. There are no road closures as of noon Wednesday.
Firefighters from the state of Utah, the Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management and local fire departments are working to establish anchor points and build a containment line along the fire’s perimeter, the statement says. A 40% chance of moisture is forecast for the area Wednesday.
