HEBER CITY, UTAH – APRIL 22, 2015 (GEPHARDT DAILY) – A Heber City man was arrested April 16th after they received a request for a welfare check from a concerned family member and found that he had held a woman against her will, raped and beat her.

Virsel Jay Daley,  57, has been booked into the Wasatch County Jail charged with one count 1st degree felony kidnapping, 2 counts 2nd degree felony aggravated assault, one count 1st degree felony sodomy, one count of 1st degree felony rape and one count 1st degree felony object rape.

Heber City Police Department Senior Officer Xela Thomas said they had received a call from a relative of a woman living at the home with the suspect. The sister of Daley’s alleged victim had received a text message from her sister saying that she was scared and that if she did not live through the night, they would know why.

When officers arrived at the home police found the female, bruised and in need of medical assistance. During the investigation they discovered the female was the victim of severe domestic abuse. “This incident had been going on for nearly three weeks,” said Thomas.

She further stated that Daley was arrested without incident Thursday near his home and booked into the Wasatch County Jail.

According to documents, Daley has been reported as having paranoid issues including waking up in the middle of the night accusing his alleged victim of drugging him to sneak out of the house. This is allegedly not the first time he has abused the victim as she told police that he has held her against her will before and knocked her unconscious.

He is being held on a $1,000,000 bail. He has an extensive criminal background stemming over 20 years including a high speed chase in Nephi where he was also arrested for domestic assault and use of methamphetamines and was a person of interest in a homicide investigation in American Fork.
