HERRIMAN, Utah, July 29, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake County man allegedly beat a dog to death after he “lost his temper” with the animal.

A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said Christopher Joseph Prows, 30, is facing a charge of aggravated cruelty to animals, intentional or knowingly, a class A misdemeanor.

On Wednesday, the arresting officer was dispatched to a report of an animal being killed.

“I responded to the animal hospital where the dog was taken by the owners,” the arresting officer wrote. “Once on scene it was learned that A/P (accused person) had ‘lost his temper’ with dog and had killed it.”

The suspect told the arresting officer that as he entered his apartment, “the dog was not doing as commanded,” the statement said.

“A/P stated he kicked the dog in the abdomen area. The dog then bit A/P on the hand. A/P told me then back handed the dog, got on top of it and struck the dog in the head at least three times causing its death.”

Prows was ordered to be released on his own recognizance.
