BELL’S CANYON, Utah, July 19, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is dead after falling in a rock slide in Bell’s Canyon Saturday morning.

Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue responded at 8:45 a.m. to a call alerting dispatch to the incident.

“Upon arrival, rescue personnel located an unresponsive 49-year-old male,” says a statement released by the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

“A doctor who happened to be hiking in the area was the first to arrive and render aid. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Detective Bennett, SLCo Sheriff’s Office, told Gephardt Daily the victim fell from the area of the Pfiefferhorn summit.

“He rolled down the mountain, about 700 feet, with the rock slide,” Bennett said.

The body has been recovered, and the area reopened, Bennett said. The victim’s name has not yet been released.

“We just urge everybody to use caution in the back areas,” Bennett said.

No serious injuries of other people were reported, the Sheriff’s statement says.
