JUAB COUNTY, June 23, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — The Iron Fire, northwest of Eureka, grew at least eight acres overnight, and is now listed at 9% contained.

The wildfire, first discovered on Friday, is now estimated at 31, 314 acres. Personnel assigned number 440, including 15 crews with 10 fire engines, two helicopters, and three additional pieces of heavy equipment.

“The Iron Fire has exhibit extreme fire behavior, resulting in a high rate of spread,” says a Tuesday morning update shared by Utah Fire Info.

“Firefighters continue working to secure and strengthen the fire perimeter through aviation, equipment and crew efforts, with priority on protecting homes and critical infrastructure. Fire crews are utilizing aviation, heavy equipment, hand crews and burning operation opportunities to slow fire spread.

Mandatory evacuations remain in place for the city of Eureka, Chimney Rock Pass, and the affected surrounding areas. Residents in evacuated areas should all follow directions from local law enforcement and emergency management officials.

Road closures are in effect, including U.S. Highway 6 between Elberta and Eureka. Do not drive around barricades, enter closed areas, or attempt to return to evacuated locations until local authorities announce that it is safe to do so.

Residents who need shelter or evacuation support should monitor official Juab County Sheriff’s Office, Eureka City, and Utah Fire Info channels for the current information.

Firefighter and public safety remain the highest priorities. Fire operations will continue to adjust to changing weather, fire behavior, terrain, access, and safety conditions. The public can help by staying out of closed areas, obeying evacuation and road-closure notices, and keeping roads clear for emergency vehicles and firefighting resources.

Do not fly drones near the fire. Unauthorized drones create a serious safety hazard and can force firefighting aircraft to be grounded.

Smoke may be visible far beyond the immediate fire area. Children, older adults, and people with heart or respiratory conditions should reduce outdoor activity when smoke is present and follow local public-health guidance.
